Dear Jonathan, We have just arrived home from the Bahamas and as I am moving around quite a bit over the next three weeks I wanted to write to thank you for the CD. It will be a very valuable source for me I am sure!
I found something you might be able to help me with. My 4x Great grandfather George Brind moved to Wales around about 1812 and had a son called Joseph Brind in 1813. Two of sons emigrated to the US, Ivor lovegrove Brind who is recorded in the 1880 US census and Fitzowen Joseph Brind who also appears in the census under the name of J Fitz Brind. I wasn't sure if it was the same person until I downloaded his US naturalization papers which I have attached.
He was baptized Michaelstone-Y-Fedw on 27th April 1851 and according to BMD was born in December 1850. It appears that he called himself Joseph Fitz Brind on reaching the States. If it is the same person then he became quite important in Arapahoe Denver, Colorado and I think there is a mountain named in his honour - though I haven't checked that out. It is called Brind Mountain and I have attached a photograph of it!
I wondered whether you think my research is good enough. I intend to write to Spronk Water Engineers who know own the Brind Mansion where he lived, to see if they know anything else about J Fitz Brind. I have found records from passenger lists and he seems to have been a regular traveller between the US and the UK.
