Aldbourne Cemetery From www.aldbourne.org.uk/forum/t Many years ago I recorded all of the memorial inscriptions in Aldbourne. Some were very difficult to read but I did my best. Here are all of the BRIND entries. They are grouped together in gravestones or memorials. The date of death is usually given and sometimes the age at death. Derek Brind married Eda Kirkcaldy in 1941. This is a letter she wrote to Christine Wilson in the late 1990s about her Brind connection.

Many thanks for your letter of the 10th. I married into the Brind family in 41. There were seven sisters and Derek Brind was the son, and the youngest one. He was killed in '44 in Caen. David was born later that year. There are no Brinds in the Melbourne phone book. But at the Necropolis in Melbourne there's an H. Brind rose garden. He obviously must have been a person of some note, to have a rose garden named after him. It's an enormous place. During the war there was an admiral Brind-- he had some connection with the Norway campaign, I recall. I've sent a copy of your letter to a Mrs Barrett of Aldbourne-- 22 Whitley Road, Aldbourne, Marlborough, Wilts SN8 2DO. Her mother was a sister to Joseph Brind He was Derek's father. Maybe there is some connection with you both. Anyway I'm putting you in touch, for what's it's worth. I lost touch with the family a few years back. My letters went unanswered. We normally exchanged cards at Christmas too. So I had a thought. I wrote to the Mayor of Swindon, Town Hall, Swindon. I knew there must be one. He, in his turn, passed my letter to the local paper. I finally caught up with my one remaining sister in law-- so contact has been re-established once more. She was Joan Clack, still is for that matter. I'll send a copy of your letter to Joan's daughter-- as well. I'm the scribe of the family. I get the occasional letter from David-- but I know he will be very interested in my various activities on his behalf. That's a strange coincidence with the Barrett's and the Brinds and for you to have the same two names in your research. Once again thank you for your letter. I'm worried about unanswered letters I Am hoping someone may be able to give me news of my in-laws after letters and Christmas cards have gone unanswered. The original family was Annie and Joe Brind, who lived at 96 Manchester Road, Swindon. They had seven daughters and one son. I married the son, Derek, who was killed in the Second World War in 1944. I've always kept in touch with the various sisters, until the last few years when letters have not been answered. One was Mrs Margaret Clack of 4 Ambrose Road, Swindon. Another was Mrs Joan Clack of 96 Manchester Road, Swindon. Her husband was called Bert. She had two daughters. Mrs Mollie Noone of 3 Poole Road, Moredon, was another sister-in-law. She had three sons, Kevin, Roger and Liam, plus four girls. My son, David Brind, would like to keep in touch with his relatives. I realise some of them may no longer be alive, but I thought if I could get the address of one of the Noone boys, they might be able to give me some information which I could pass on to David, who lives in New Zealand. Living so far away it's not easy to get any information about people, as I haven't any family in England, still alive. I would be very grateful for any assistance.
